A call for project proposals: Uranium Tailings in CA
The KR Government and UNDP project «Assessment of Radioactive Waste Management Capabilities of the Kyrgyz Republic in a Transboundary Context» is calling all relevant stakeholders for project proposals, which should aim at uranium and other tailings containing highly toxic substances and development of measures to prevent potential environmental catastrophes. The package of project proposals from Central Asian states will further be submitted to donor community at the high-level International Forum on Uranium Tailings on June 29, in Geneva.
The project proposals should focus the following areas:
- Institutional framework and regulatory aspects of radioactive waste management in national and transboundary contexts
- Development projects for improvement of socio-economic and environmental situations in the affected areas
- Projects on reclamation and remediation of problem sites and on environmental monitoring
- Business projects and commercial proposals for recycling of wastes
Project proposals can be made both by government, non-governmental organization, national, regional and international projects, academic and other institutions, as well as by local communities.
