Interim Government First Vice Chair meets with UN Delegation

Bishkek (AKIpress) — Interim Government First Vice Chairman Almazbek Atambaev met with the UN Delegation. 

A. Atambaev thanked for support provided by UN and the recent aid in the amount of US$909 thousand. He expressed willingness to continue cooperation in such areas as poverty reduction, development of entrepreneurship and prevention of natural disasters. 

«In Soviet time Kyrgyzstan had uranium production sites, nuclear wastes remain still in the country in uranium tailings, which are in disastrous situation,» he underscored. Atambaev said work in this area needs to be continued. 

Atambaev talked about upcoming constitutional referendum and said Kyrgyzstan will be the first Central Asian country which has chosen the parliamentary system of governance.

 "We want to eradicate despotism in germ. We rely upon your assistance in this, since such democratic reform is made for the first time," he said. 

The head of the UN Delegation and Assistant Secretary-General, Kori Udovički, said she planned her visit to Kyrgyzstan long time ago. She said UN pays a special attention to the program on stabilization of the situation in Kyrgyzstan, while UN Secretary-General repeatedly talked about political support to Kyrgyzstan in his special statements.
